(Psalm 118:24 NLT) This is the day the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.
Definition of Joy: deep sense of contentment that comes from a relationship with God through Jesus, sustained by the Holy Spirit, and is both a present reality and a future hope for believers.
4 Joy Killers
1. Busyness
(Haggai 1:5-7 NLT) This is what the LORD of Heaven's Armies says: Look at what's happening to you! You have planted much but harvest little. You eat but are not satisfied. You drink but are still thirsty. You put on clothes but cannot keep warm. Your wages disappear as though you were putting them in pockets filled with holes! "This is what the LORD of Heaven's Armies says: Look at what's happening to you!

2. Seeing FUN as equal to JOY
3. Comparison
(James 3:16 NLT) For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind.

4. Thinking I know best
(Job 42:1-3 NLT) Then Job replied to the LORD: "I know that you can do anything, and no one can stop you. You asked, 'Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorance?' It is I--and I was talking about things I knew nothing about, things far too wonderful for me.
(Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT) Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

4 Joy Builders
1. Know God
(Psalm 16:11 ESV) You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

2. Shift your perspective
(James 1:1-4 NLT) This letter is from James, a slave of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ. I am writing to the "twelve tribes"--Jewish believers scattered abroad. Greetings! Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.

3. Talk to yourself
(Lamentations 3:20-25 NLT) I will never forget this awful time, as I grieve over my loss.YET I still dare to hope when I remember this: The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. I SAY TO MYSELF, "The LORD is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!" The LORD is good to those who depend on him, to those who search for him.
(Psalm 42:11 NIV) Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.

(Hebrews 10:23 NLT) Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.
Joy isn’t tied to circumstances, it is tied to God’s promises.
(Hebrews 10:24-25 NLT) Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.
