Message Description:
It’s easy to complain. From slow drive-thrus to crowded closets with “nothing to wear,” we’ve all done it. But what if our biggest struggle isn’t what we don’t have... it’s forgetting what we do?
In this powerful and real message, we’ll look at a story from the life of Jesus that reveals how gratitude isn't just polite—it’s transformational. You’ll discover three practical statements that can shift your mindset from entitlement to joy, and from comparison to contentment.
If you’ve ever struggled with wanting more, feeling like it’s not enough, or just need a heart reset—this is for you. It’s time to take what we already have and turn it back into praise.
You’ll walk away knowing:
✅ Every good thing you have comes from God
✅ How to fight comparison and embrace contentment
✅ Why gratitude leads to lasting joy—and how to choose it daily

THREE STATEMENTS THAT WILL HELP YOU CHOOSE GRATITUDE
1. I KNOW EVERY GOOD THING I HAVE COMES FROM GOD.
2. I WILL NOT LET WHAT I WANT ROB ME OF WHAT I HAVE.
3. I’LL TURN EVERY BLESSING I HAVE INTO PRAISE.
TALK IT OVER
1. Icebreaker: Complainers Anonymous
- What’s one thing you’ve found yourself complaining about this week?
- Why do you think it’s easier to complain than to be grateful?
2. Luke 17 - One Out of Ten
- Read Luke 17:11–18. Why do you think only one of the ten healed lepers came back to thank Jesus?
- What does this story teach us about the rarity and importance of true gratitude?
3. I Want to Be the One!
- Pastor Sean said, “I want to be the one!” — the one who returns with gratitude. What’s one way you can live that out this week?
4. Statement 1: “Every Good Thing I Have Comes from God”
- Read James 1:17. What’s one good thing in your life you’ve taken for granted?
- How does recognizing God as the source of your blessings change your perspective?
5. What Do You Have Right Now?
- Make a list together: What do you already have in your life (spiritually, relationally, materially) that you can thank God for right now?
6. Statement 2: “I Will Not Let What I Want Rob Me of What I Have.”
- How does wanting “more” or “better” distract you from what God’s already given you?
- Read Ecclesiastes 6:9. How does this verse speak to your own heart’s desires?
7. Contentment Through Christ
- Read Philippians 4:11–13. What does it mean to learn contentment?
- When have you seen Jesus give you strength to be content —even when life was hard?
8. Statement 3: “I’ll Turn Every Blessing I Have Into Praise”
- Pastor Sean said, “Every blessing I don’t turn into praise turns into pride.” What are some blessings in your life you need to return to God in praise?
9. Perspective Shift
- The story of the foster daughter changed the Pastor Sean’s outlook on “stuff.” Have you ever had a moment where your perspective totally changed?
- What did you begin to value more after that experience?
10. Gratitude Exercise Challenge
- This week, try the exercise from the message: Pretend you lost something you love—and then pretend you just got it back. How does that reframe your attitude?
11. Living a Grateful Life
- Read Psalm 103:2–5. What are some specific things in this passage you can praise God for?
- What’s one daily habit you can start to help you “stay positive” and live gratefully?
