Sermon Title: The Seldom Mentioned Cost of Discipleship

Sermon Text: Luke 14:25-35

Preparation Question: What did Jesus mean when he told us to take up our cross and follow Him?

Two considerations of what it means to be a disciple of Jesus:
1. A disciple of Jesus surrenders his/her relationships to Him. (v. 26a)

2. A disciple of Jesus surrenders all of his/her life to Him. (v. 26b-27)

Response Questions
1. If the gospel is free, why does Jesus tell us there is a price to discipleship?
2. What does Jesus mean when he tells us that in order to follow him we must "hate" family members in our lives?
3. How do we find the correct balance of loving those in our lives and loving Jesus in the way a right relationship with Him requires?
4. How do we go about counting the cost of following Jesus when we don't know what will happen throughout the rest of our lives?
5. What will you do this week to walk deeper in discipleship with Jesus?
