Whatever ethical conclusion we reach about this act of “creative disobedience,” what the midwives said satisfied Pharaoh (who seems on this occasion at least to have been a few bricks shy of a pyramid). More importantly, what they did pleased God. In a story, one of the best ways to tell whether or not people have done the right thing is to see what happens to them. In this case Shiphrah and Puah received just reward for the obedience of their faith. ~ Philip Ryken
