Going Deeper is designed for use with your small group, a friend, or alone. It aims to create time for you to spend with God and his word, and apply it to your life. Please feel free to use whatever questions that will help you and your group discuss.
1. Pray for each other in your group, that God would soften your hearts to hear his Spirit speaking through his Word and for a willingness to follow what God is asking of you.
2. Start talking.
Did you ever get a negative first impression of someone? What did it take to correct the way you saw them?

3. Start thinking.
Read Exodus 34:1-7 aloud.
If your group has various translations, read verses 6-7 in a variety of translations. What key words and themes do you notice as you hear it in different translations? These words of God were spoken at the beginning of his covenant partnership with the nation of Israel. Why might he choose to reveal himself in this way at the beginning of this covenant partnership?

Visual Commentary on Exodus 34:6-7
This gives a broad context for how God reveals himself to his people. Pastor Connie mentioned that Exodus 34:6-7 is the most repeated and re-quoted text in all of Scripture. Can you think of other biblical passages that contain a number of the key phrases from these verses? (see list below if stuck)

If time, look up some of the key passages mentioned in this video to broaden your understanding of God’s compassion (ie: Exodus 3:7, Isaiah 49:15, 1 Kings 3:16-28, Luke 6:36, Luke 13:34).
5. Start sharing.
When you think back on first being introduced to who God was, what were your first impressions of him? Who were the people or situations that influenced whether your view of him was positive or negative?

6. Start doing.
Take the Scripture memorization challenge that Pastor Connie offered to memorize Exodus 34:6-7. Repeat this Scripture daily until you have learned it by heart. Allow the words to wash over you as you learn them by heart. Soak in the attributes that God reveals of who he truly is.
