SERMON NOTES
John 14:1-10
Why do Christians believe it all comes down to Jesus?
Some questions can change your day…
Some questions can change your life…
Today’s question has the potential to change your eternity: …why Jesus?
To know “why Jesus,” one question we need to answer: Who is Jesus?
The Jesus of the Bible was a real, historical figure. He lived, died, and rose again.
“…Christus, the founder of the name, [who] was put to death by Pontius Pilate, procurator of Judea…” – Tacitus, Roman historian, 2nd Century
“James, the brother of Jesus, who was called the Christ.” – Josephus, Jewish historian, 1st Century
“A wise man…a doer of surprising feats…[who] was the Christ…[and who] appeared to them restored to life on the third day…” -Josephus’ Testimonium Flavianum
Some may reject Jesus as God—but it’s hard to reject Him as real.
Who was Jesus? The Bible gives a clear, consistent, and life-changing answer:
Who was Jesus? The Bible gives a clear, consistent, and life-changing answer: Jesus wasn’t just a man—He was, and is, God in the flesh.
Micah 5:2
Isaiah 53:3
Isaiah 53:5
Isaiah 53:6
Isaiah 53:9
Isaiah 53:11
Jesus calmed storms, walked on water, forgave sins, and raised the dead – all of these things that only God can do.
John 1:1
John 1:14
Hebrews 1:3
Jesus doesn’t just explain God’s love – He demonstrated it.
1 Timothy 2:5
If Jesus was real…if He really is more than just a man…the next question matters even more: who did He say He was?
Some believe Jesus:
· Was a good man
· Was a great teacher
· Was a prophet, but not divine.
· Was like other spiritual leaders – important, not unique
John 8:12
John 11:25
John 6:35
Exodus 3:14
John 10:30-33
Mark 14:61-64
Jesus also acted like God:
· He forgave sins
Mark 2:7
Jesus also acted like God:
· He forgave sins
· He accepted worship
Luke 19:39
Jesus also acted like God:
· He forgave sins
· He accepted worship
· He claimed unity with the Father
John 14:9
What do we do with Jesus’ claim of being the only way to reach God?
John 14:6
Every belief system is exclusive in some way.
When Jesus says He’s the only way to God, He’s not being arrogant—He’s being honest.
Christianity is exclusive in truth…
Christianity is exclusive in truth…but it’s also radically inclusive in invitation
John 3:16
Revelation 7:9
John 19:30
The cross was Jesus’ payment for our salvation. But the resurrection? That was His proof of all His claims.
Can we trust that He really rose from the dead?
Four reasons to believe:
1. The tomb was empty
2. Women were the first eyewitnesses
3. Other eyewitnesses saw Him alive
1 Corinthians 15:6
4. The disciples’ transformation
The question becomes personal: What will you do with Jesus?
· Ignore Him?
· Reject Him?
· Trust Him?
Our faith is not built on wishful thinking. It’s anchored in a real Savior, who really lived, really died, really rose from the dead, and is really coming again.
Who do you say He is? And what will you do with Him?
