No Storm Is To Big For My Jesus – Mark 4:35-41
Jesus Calms the Storm
35 As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.”36 So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed).37 But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water. 38 Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?” 39 When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm.40 Then he asked them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?” 41 The disciples were absolutely terrified. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “Even the wind and waves obey him!”
Mark 4:35-41 NLT
Before the Storm (Mark 4:35-36)
As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.”36 So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed).
Mark 4:35-36 NLT
The Sea of Galilee is approximately 8 miles (13 kilometers) wide at its widest point. It's also about 13 miles (21 kilometers) long from north to south.
Jesus and His fishermen followers (disciples) were trying to get some time away from the crowds as they crossed over to the other side of the lake.
As Jesus’ ministry increased, He stayed around the Sea of Galilee without going into it (Mark 2:13; 3:7; 4:1)
Jesus Calls Levi (Matthew)
Then Jesus went out to the lakeshore again and taught the crowds that were coming to him. Mark 2:13 NLT
Crowds Follow Jesus
Jesus went out to the lake with his disciples, and a large crowd followed him. They came from all over Galilee, Judea, Mark 3:7 NLT
Parable of the Farmer Scattering Seed
Once again Jesus began teaching by the lakeshore. A very large crowd soon gathered around him, so he got into a boat. Then he sat in the boat while all the people remained on the shore. Mark 4:1 NLT
Using a boat for His pulpit, Jesus preached in the sea (Mark 4:1) and then finally set out into it the night of the great storm as we see in (Mark 4:35-36)

Jesus led them straight into the storm…for a purpose. Every storm has a purpose.
During the Storm (Mark 4:37-39)
But soon a fierce storm came up. Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. Mark 4:37-39 NLT
Think about how bad this storm had to be…seasoned fishermen were terrified of the storm while the Jesus, the carpenter was sleeping through it.
Stop here for a second: If you understand who Jesus is, you will always see what He does…maybe not right off the bat…but in time you will…just like His disciples.
Only God has the ability to rebuke the forces of nature and the forces of evil….and if He is in you…He gives you the power to overcome and work through the storms in your life.
The most caring thing Jesus could do was to lead them through a storm…He could control. Woah! What a lesson…”to trust Jesus in and through the storm is what He wants us to do”
If you have to be in the storm, the best place to be is with Jesus while your going in and through it.
After the Storm (Mark 4:40-41)
40 Then he asked them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?” 41 The disciples were absolutely terrified. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “Even the wind and waves obey him!” Mark 4:35-41 NLT
Yes, the disciples went through a great storm, but Jesus made it a great calm, and their reaction was having a great fear.
A REACTION is an action we perform when we experience fear or anxiety.
A RESPONSE is something you think about before you act.
KEY: Satan’s biggest tool against us is to try and get us to fear the unknown….He wanted the disciples to forget everything they had seen and experienced with Jesus and not trust Him.
The disciples (who again were fisherman and used to the sea) feared a storm when they should have feared the one who could sleep through it.
The point of this story is not that Jesus WILL calm your storm but that He CAN calm your storm.
If Jesus had the authority to rebuke that storm, He has the power to rescue you and me from the greatest one of all – God’s judgment.
We all need Jesus…and if you don’t know Him…get in the boat with Him and accept Him today!
