LOVE - we only have one word for it.
People LOST the GARDEN because People LOST LOVE for GOD.
The Tree—Of Knowledge of Good and Evil.
Why the Tree?
TRUE LOVE is not COERCED, TRUE LOVE is a CHOICE.
The Serpent
- Genesis 2:25, “Adam and his wife were both naked [arum-mim], and they felt no shame.”
- Genesis 3:1, “Now the serpent was more crafty [arum] than any of the wild animals….”
- The Hebrew word נַחַשׁ (nachash) means “snake”,
- The Hebrew word נַחַשׁ (nachash) can also mean “to practice divination”
- Genesis 2:25, “Adam and his wife were both naked [arum-mim], and they felt no shame.”
- Genesis 3:1, “Now the serpent was more crafty [arum] than any of the wild animals….”

- The Hebrew word נַחַשׁ (nachash) can also mean “to practice divination”
In an UNASSUMING way, the Serpent wants to UNDERMINE God by UNRAVELING the humans’ LOVE for God, and thus, UNDO God’s kingdom.
The Temptation—the Leap, the Lasso, the Lie, and the Lure
“Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden?”
- The Serpent does not question the existence of God.
- The Serpent does not question the authority of God’s Word.
- The Serpent questions the goodness, thus the love, of God towards humans.
- The Serpent does not question the existence of God.
- The Serpent does not question the authority of God’s Word.
- The Serpent questions the goodness, thus the love, of God towards humans.
Modern-day absurd statements for Americans could be:
- God is dead!
- There is no God.
- God is dead!
- There is no God.
“We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”
Eve…
- Avoids using the tree’s name (“the tree in the middle of the garden”)
- Religiously, legalistically, adds a rule (“must not touch it”)
- Lessens, downplays, the punishment (“you will die”)

She knows something about God’s word but has failed to know His heart!
“You will not certainly die. . . . For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
The Sin
Sin = LOVING something or someone else more than GOD.
Have you received God’s relentless, reckless LOVE for You?
Do you supremely, persistently, passionately LOVE God?
