What Are the Odds? - He Was Led Like a Lamb to the Slaughter
1. He Was Led Like a Lamb to the Slaughter
2. Isa.53:1-7a Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? 2 He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.
3. 3 He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.
4. 4 Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities;
5. ...the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. 6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
6. 7 He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth...
7. What are the odds?
8. The story of the Bible is the story of the Lamb
9. The story begins in Gen. with the story of Adam and Eve.
10. Gen.3:21 The Lord God made clothing from skins for the man and his wife, and he clothed them.
11. Gen.22. Abraham has taken his promised son Isaac to Mt. Moriah.
12. When a sacrifice was required, God provided a ram in place of Isaac.
13. Ex.12 is the story of the 10th plague, where the Israelites were spared judgment by sacrificing a lamb.
14. The lamb was a substitute to pay for their sins.
15. Isa.53:7b ...He was led like a lamb to the slaughter.
16. When John the Baptist saw Jesus he said, Jn. 1:29b Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
17. The man who was the lamb, the perfect sacrifice who would take away the sins of the world had arrived.
18. Jesus was led up a hill called “Golgotha,” where He suffered and died – giving His life as payment for our sins.
19. With his last breath, He said Jn.19:30 Tetelastai! - It is finished!
20. Tetelastai means, Paid in full. No more payment.
21. Hebrews 9:12 He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption.
22. The story of the Bible is the story of a lamb, who was slain for the sin of the world.
23. Rev.5:13 Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying: “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!”
24. The Lamb is now in heaven, being worshiped forever.
25. Rev.21:22-23 I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.
26. How do we join Him in the Holy City?
27. Rev.21:27 Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
