Easter at Southview | Dispel Delusion
This week, Pastor Nathan Wakefield continues our Easter sermon series. John 19:1-16 encourages Christians and seekers alike to confront their beliefs about Jesus, reminding them that indecision about Him is a decision against Him. The passage serves as a call to deepen one’s faith and commitment in the face of societal pressures. Video of the worship service is available beginning Sunday at 9:30 AM at https://southviewbaptist.org/live.

1. Sovereign or Sham — Jesus is either King of creation or a liar (1‑5).
• Maybe Pilate thought a simple flogging would appease the Jews (1‑2).
• But everyone knew that the claims of Jesus were extraordinary (3).
• Pilate thought that he could avoid making a decision on who Jesus was (4‑5).
Action: Evaluate your perspective on Jesus by asking if you have taken a stand on who Jesus is.

2. Misguided Mindset — Wrong priorities result in a wrong view of Jesus (6‑12).
• Prioritizing personal power inevitably results in rejecting Jesus (6‑7).
• Prioritizing personal pride inevitably leads to missing the obvious (8‑10).
• Prioritizing personal preservation inevitably leads to poor decision‑making (11‑12).
Action: Evaluate your priorities. Are you placing too much emphasis on power, pride, or preservation?

3. Faithless Folly — Denying Jesus results in deep delusion (13‑16).
• Pilate could not escape responsibility for accepting or rejecting Jesus.
• The Jews in their arrogance sacrificed that which they had hoped to preserve.
Action: Where have you let denial result in delusion? Choose to turn back now!
