CHRIST IS MORE POWERFUL TO SAVE THAN ADAM IS TO RUIN.
S = S₀ · exp[–k · (t_J + t_C)]
1. We are Dead to Sin Through Union with Christ
THE TRUTH IS THAT YOU HAVE DIED TO SIN.
v.3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?
v.4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death
v.5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his…
v.7 For one who has died has been set free from sin.
v.8 Now if we have died with Christ,…
“Just as faith is always assumed to lead to baptism, so baptism always assumes faith for its validity. In vs. 3-4, then, we can assume that baptism stands for the whole conversion-initiation experience, presupposing faith and the gift of the Spirit.”

“I have been, or will be, baptized as a public testimony of my faith in Jesus and my desire to follow Him.” (Matthew 28:19, Romans 6:3-4)
“Every waking moment we are deciding between righteousness and unrighteousness, between godliness and ungodliness. Given the strength of the power of sin that still resides within us, along with the astronomical number of opportunities that we have to sin, it is inevitable that sooner or later, and most often it is sooner, we do succumb to sin. But if we take each temptation in isolation from all of the rest, and consider them one at a time, we can never at any given moment look at a particular temptation and say, ‘We didn’t have the power or the grace to resist that sin.’ The power is there; the grace is there. We may grow weary in well doing and succumb to sin inevitably, but never by necessity.”
v.7 For one who has died has been set free from sin.
2. We are Alive to God Through Union with Christ.
v.4 …in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life
v.5 …we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.
v.8 …we believe that we will also live with him
v.9 We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him
v.10 …but the life he lives he lives to God.

“If God reckons you dead in Jesus Christ, if God accounts your sins to be dead on the cross, then you also ought to reckon yourself to be dead. Paul is not asking us to do anything toward ourselves that God has not first done for us.”

-R.C. Sproul
Our new life does not bring us salvation, but it is the result of salvation (cf. vv. 16, 19; and Eph. 2:8–9, 10; James 2:14–26)
Big Idea:
Count yourself dead to sin and alive In Christ.
Count yourself dead to sin and alive In Christ.
