Sermon: A Test of Love
Passage: 1 John 2:15-17

Introduction

Where are the affections and devotions of your heart directed?

Do you believe that God‘s will is really what is best for your life?

1. Who or what is on the altar of your heart?

A. The context and theme. 1 John 5:11-13

B. The need for a Paul, a Timothy, and a Barnabas in our lives.

C. The love here is defined as the affections and the devotions of our hearts.

D. The test of our hearts. Matthew 10:37-39; Genesis 13:9-18; Genesis 13:3-4

2. The things of the world are in opposition to God.

A. The lust of the flesh. Romans 8:5-8

B. The lust of the eyes. Joshua 7:20-21

C. The boastful pride of life.

D. The temptation of Eve. Genesis 3:6

3. The outcomes of the tests of love.

A. The response of our hearts to the love of God and to His will.

Application Thoughts

1. Acknowledge God‘s kindness and goodness in your life on a regular basis. James 1:16-18

2. Stay hopeful for yourself and others. James 5:19-20

3. Be committed to being accountable with others to love God and to do His will.

4. The value of the evaluation.

Project C.U.R.E CCMC Uganda Trip

Project C.U.R.E. is sending a team of medical and non-medical volunteers to Christ Care Medical Center in Lira, Uganda, from June 4-17. The team will work alongside the CCMC staff to provide much-needed medical care. The Project C.U.R.E team is still looking for 1 non medical volunteer, 1-2 providers (NP, PA, MD, DO), and 2-3 medical volunteers (nurses, EMTs, paramedics, etc.). Women's Ministry
The Women of Hope Saturday morning Bible study meets every other Saturday at the church at 9:00am. Please check the "Ministry Calendar" above for specific dates.

Men's Ministry
The Thursday morning men's Bible study meets every other Thursday morning at the church at 6:00am. Please check the "Ministry Calendar" above for specific dates.

Young Adults
The Young Adults group meets Sunday mornings at the church at 8:45am.

Youth Group
Youth Group meets Sunday mornings during the service on all but the first Sunday of the month. The group also meets Sunday evenings at the church from 4:00-5:30.

Golden MomCo (formerly MOPS)
MomCo meets on the first and third Tuesday of the month at First Baptist Church in Golden. Childcare is available.

Stephen Ministry
Stephen Ministers offer one-to-one, Christ-centered, emotional and spiritual care for people in the congregation going through difficult times such as job loss, financial struggles, medical issues, or death of a loved one.

Care Team Ministry
The Care Team Ministry provides transportation for those in need in our Hillside Family.

Prayer Ministry
The Prayer Team hosts a monthly prayer night at 7:00pm on the third Monday of the month. Everyone is welcome! You can also receive prayer in person from 9:30-10:00am Sunday mornings in the cry room adjacent to the church foyer.

Meals Ministry
The Meals Ministry is a practical way to meet the needs of others in the congregation who are welcoming a new baby or experiencing challenging circumstances.
