Letters to the Church — The Gospel ‑ God’s Righteousness Imputed Through Faith

This week, Pastor Nathan Wakefield continues the Letters to the Church series with Romans 3:21-31. This passage teaches believers that their standing before God is not based on their own works or adherence to the law, but solely on their faith in Christ. It encourages Christians to rest in Christ’s righteousness, alleviating the burden of guilt and performance while inviting those outside the faith to embrace the grace that is offered freely. Video of the worship service is available beginning Sunday at 9:30 AM at https://southviewbaptist.org/live.

Sunday 9:30 AM

1. The Gospel’s Good News — The good news of the Gospel is that God’s righteousness does not come through the Law (21‑22).

• God’s righteousness is made known apart from the Law (21).
• God’s righteousness is made available to all who believe (22).

Action: Check your dependence. Are you fully depending on Christ for your righteousness?
2. The Gospel’s Simplicity — When properly discussed, sin always comes with the declaration of grace (23‑24).

• The message of sin is inseparable from the Gospel (23).
• The message of Grace is inseparable from the Gospel (24).

Action: Check your perspective. Are you subscribing to the full simplicity of the Gospel?
3. The Gospel’s Mechanism — The Gospel operates through the atoning sacrifice of Christ (25‑26).

• Christ’s sacrifice established the ultimate mercy seat (25a).
• Christ’s sacrifice paid for all past sins (25b).
• Christ’s sacrifice pays for all present sins (26).

Action: Check your status. Are you resting in Christ’s righteousness?
4. The Gospel’s Unity — The Gospel brings everything together in a nicely packaged truth: Jesus saves (27‑31).

• The works of the Law are not a means to salvation (27‑28).
• Salvation by faith is the great unifier (29‑31).

Action: Check your actions. Is faith the foundation of everything you do?
