Letters to the Church — The Gospel ‑ God's Mission
This week, Pastor Nathan Wakefield continues the Letters to the Church series with Romans 2:17-29. This passage encourages Christians today to reflect on their own faith and relationship with God, reminding them that a true follower of Christ goes beyond just knowing the Scriptures. It urges believers to seek genuine heart transformation over mere outward demonstrations of faith, serving as a guide in spiritual growth and authenticity. Video of the worship service is available beginning Sunday at 9:30 AM at https://southviewbaptist.org/live.

1. Mighty Misnomers — There are five knowledge myths we must watch out for (17‑18).
• Titles don’t trump obedience.
• The Law will not support your weight.
• Boasting in God is not obedience to God.
• Knowing God’s will is different from doing God’s will.
• Being able to identify righteousness is not the same as being righteous.
Action: Ask yourself, “Which of the 5 myths do I need to be most careful about in my life?”

2. Tempting Traps — There are four traps that we must avoid (19‑22).
• Don’t lead the blind into destruction (Matthew 15:7‑14).
• Don’t put your light under a basket (Matthew 5:14‑16).
• Don’t lead fools away from God (Ephesians 5:17).
• Don’t over‑judge your maturity.
Action: Strive to disciple others, but as you do so, watch out for the traps!

3. Hypocrisy Hinders — There are five hypocrisies that lead others to blaspheme God (22‑24).
• Teachers who do not practice what they teach.
• Preachers who steal.
• Rule enforcers who break the rules they enforce.
• Idealists who compromise for their own benefit.
• Legalists who break their own rules.
Action: Ask yourself, am I living in a way that is consistent with who God has revealed Himself to be?
