Series: In My Feelings
An expression that means you're deeply immersed in your emotions and they are significantly influencing your thoughts and behaviours.
Also has this awareness to it, like I’m very aware that this emotion or feeling is dominating my life right now.

----------
ENNUI
Ennui means feeling really bored and tired of everything. It's when nothing seems fun or interesting, and you just don't know what to do with yourself.
- Deep and pervasive sense of dissatisfaction and boredom
- Nothing excites
**This is not depression or grief

----------
ECCLESIASTES
1 The words of the Teacher, son of David, king in Jerusalem:

2 “Meaningless! Meaningless!”
says the Teacher.
“Utterly meaningless!
Everything is meaningless.”

3 What do people gain from all their labors
at which they toil under the sun?
4 Generations come and generations go,
but the earth remains forever.
5 The sun rises and the sun sets,
and hurries back to where it rises.
6 The wind blows to the south
and turns to the north;
round and round it goes,
ever returning on its course.
7 All streams flow into the sea,
yet the sea is never full.
To the place the streams come from,
there they return again.
8 All things are wearisome,
more than one can say.
The eye never has enough of seeing,
nor the ear its fill of hearing.
9 What has been will be again,
what has been done will be done again;
there is nothing new under the sun.
10 Is there anything of which one can say,
“Look! This is something new”?
It was here already, long ago;
it was here before our time.
11 No one remembers the former generations,
and even those yet to come
will not be remembered
by those who follow them.

Meaningless –> Hebrew Hevel –> Vapour
• All of the things that most of us chase, that we're told will bring us meaning and joy and satisfaction, they are all an illusion, they are all vapour

The author of Ecclesiastes wants you to know that if you’ve felt this way, you are not alone. Quite to the contrary, you are experiencing a fundamental reality of life
o 1:13 “the heavy burden that God has laid on human-kind”

----------
27x times – Under the Sun.
• What isn't under the sun? God.
• Without God, life is all vapour.
• Chase anything under the sun and you will end in this massive, overwhelming feeling of despair...like everything is meaningless
• Begin with God end with joy. Begin with anything else and you'll end with vapour.

Ecclesiastes is a relentless intense insistence that there is no meaning outside of God.

So if you’ve been feeling the ennui of life…
Perhaps it’s because you’ve been chasing the vapour.

Maybe that’s the good part of this emotion.
It’s an alarm bell.
God created you to be frustrated, unsatisfied, bored, when you’re chasing the vapour.
Ennui comes from a longing for God.
The Ennui is meant to push you to him.

St. Augustine – "Our hearts are restless until they find their rest in you."

----------
You were not created to be locked in Ennui.

John 10:10 - abundant life
John 17:3 - know God the Father and his son Jesus the Christ
Seek first the kingdom
Pray that this kingdom would come to earth.

---------
What have you been chasing?
What vision, what goal, that is just something under the sun that will not last and will not satisfy.
Will you let it go?
Redirect your focus, your schedule, your energy?

Will you surrender your vapour chase?

----------
Story of King Solomon and Benaiah
"This too shall pass."

What are you giving your life to that will not pass?
