In God We Trust - Part 4
Introduction:

This series explores stewardship, wisdom, faithfulness, and the heart's orientation toward God and wealth. This passage provides a deep look at how we handle resources, the importance of faithfulness, and the need for an evident devotion to God over money.
Steward- (oikonomos) a house distributor (that is, manager), or overseer, that is, an employee in that capacity.
Stewardship- (oikonomia) administration (of a household or estate); account or accounting, audit.
1. Keep Good Records.
Four Things you need to keep good records on:

· What I own ----- > Assets
· What I owe -----> Liabilities
· What I earn -----> Income
· Where it all goes -----> Spending
2. Plan Your Spending
3. Save For the Future
Money is a resource God has entrusted to us, not for wasteful indulgence but for stewardship. Saving money isn’t merely a financial strategy; it is a spiritual discipline.
Proverbs 21:20 TLB:
The wise man saves for the future, but the foolish man spends whatever he gets.
a. A lesson from the ants.
Lesson:

Just as the ant works diligently to prepare for the future, we are called to save and plan ahead. Saving isn’t about hoarding; it’s about preparing for needs and opportunities.
Application:

Be intentional in setting aside a portion of your earnings for emergencies and future responsibilities.
Everyone knows this. Savings is important. These points are easy to understand, but difficult to do.
b. Savings allows you to honor God and avoid debt.
Romans 13:8 TLB:

Pay all your debts except the debt of love for others—never finish paying that! For if you love them, you will be obeying all of God’s laws, fulfilling all his requirements.
Lesson:
Saving helps us avoid unnecessary debt, which can enslave us financially and spiritually. Living within our means demonstrates trust in God’s provision and discipline in our spending.
Application:
Create a budget that prioritizes saving, avoiding the temptation to overspend or rely on credit.
c. Savings enables generosity.
Lesson:
When we save wisely, we position ourselves to be generous when needs arise. Biblical saving isn’t just for personal security but for the ability to bless others and advance God’s kingdom.
Application:
Set aside part of your savings to respond to God’s call to help those in need or support ministry work.
Homework assignment:

1. Aim to save 10% of your income. Start where you are.
2. Build an emergency fund for 1-3 months of expenses.
3. Pay off debt first to save faster.
4. Read books and consult with a financial advisor.
