Light in the Darkness: The Story of Christmas
Part 2
December 8, 2024
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.”
(John 1:5, New Living Translation 2 nd Ed.)
“God sent a man, John the Baptist… to tell about the light so that everyone might believe because of his testimony. John himself was not the light; he was simply a witness to tell about the light. The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.”
(John 1:6-9, NLT 2 nd Ed.)
“John the Baptist came to the Judean wilderness and began preaching… John’s clothes were woven from coarse camel hair, and he wore a leather belt around his waist. For food he ate locusts and wild honey.”
(Matthew 3:1,4 , NLT2)
“Your son] will be great in the eyes of the Lord. He must never touch wine or other alcoholic drinks. He will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even before his birth.

[Your son] will turn many Israelites to the Lord their God. He will be a man with the spirit and power of Elijah. He will prepare the people for the coming of the Lord. He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and he will cause those who are rebellious to accept the wisdom of the godly.”
(Luke 1:15-17, NLT2)
“Someone is coming soon who is greater than I am—so much greater that I’m not even worthy to be his slave and untie the straps of his sandals.”
(Luke 3:16, NLT2)
‘I am not the Messiah. I am only here to prepare the way for him.’ It is the [groom] who marries the bride, and the best man is simply glad to stand with him and hear his vows. Therefore, I am filled with joy at his success. He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.
(John 3:27-30, NLT2)
Christmas is not about me.
Christmas is all about reflecting Jesus.
Prepare our hearts in advance for Christmas.
