Moral Relativism – the idea that there is no universal or absolute set of moral principles.
A couple problems:
1. The first problem is that this view assumes that your heart is worth following.
2. Secondly, in order to know what “harms” someone, you have to differentiate good from evil.
Holiness
· Christ means to transform us into His image.
o 1 John 4:17 This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus.
o Galatians 4:19 My dear children, for whom I am again in the pains of childbirth until Christ is formed in you.
o Ephesians 4:24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
o Philippians 2:5-6 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very natureGod, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
o 1 Corinthians 11:1 Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.
· Three terms to consider:
o Sincerity
o Maturity
o Blamelessness
Text
I Corinthians 6:12-20 All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything. 13 “Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food”—and God will destroy both one and the other. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14 And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power. 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! 16 Or do you not know that he who is joinedto a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, “The two will become one flesh.” 17 But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. 18 Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sina person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. 19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
1. The body is not meant for sexual immorality.
2. Jesus came back from the dead in a body.
3. Sex is not just a biological act.
A lesson from Zaccheuas
Fasting
1. Starve the flesh and feed spirit
2. Amplifies your prayers
3. Stand in solidarity with the poor
