"But nothing we forgo in the cause of Christ – wealth, popularity, kudos, not even our very lives – can come anywhere close to the return. The price we pay to follow Jesus – whatever it might be – will acquire for us the most astounding bargain of our lives!"

1. Meditate daily on the teachings and life of Jesus.
2. Remember always that the non—violent movement in Birmingham seeks justice and reconciliation — not victory.
3. Walk and talk in the manner of love, for God is love.
4. Pray daily to be used by God in order that all men might be free.
5. Sacrifice personal wishes in order that all men might be free.
6. Observe with both friend and foe the ordinary rules of courtesy.
7. Seek to perform regular service for others and for the world.
8. Refrain from the violence of fist, tongue, or heart.
9. Strive to be in good spiritual and bodily health.
10. Follow the directions of the movement and of the captain on a demonstration.
1. Practice Submission
2. Cultivate Honor
3. Model Endurance
Identify an authority figure in your life (boss, government official, etc.) and find a way to support their legitimate goals this week.
Choose someone you disagree with politically or personally. Commit to speaking respectfully about them for the next month, focusing on their positive qualities.
When facing unfair treatment, ask yourself, "How can I use this situation to demonstrate Christ's love?" Rather than seeking escape, look for opportunities to serve.
