Encouragement is the spiritual antibiotic to stubborn sin and resistant self.

3 things that can sabotage a biblical culture of encouragement
Authenticity- The encouragement is less than genuine.
Ulterior motive- The encouragement is given to get something in return
Control- The encouragement is used to control the goodwill of good people.
