How Do You Stack Up?
1 Thess. 1:8-10
Pastor Jerry Koller
Things that were reported to Paul:
1. Response to Idols
By today’s standards, you could say these people were religious before the Holy Spirit drew them to Christ.
When God the Holy Spirit draws and changes a person, He does so from the inside out.
· The inner change has an outwardly manifestation.
· When the Holy Spirit draws an individual, He draws the person away from something to something else.
· When God converts a person, he changes the entire person: his heart, his thoughts, his will and his worldview.
· They turned from serving their false gods to serving the living and true God.
2. Eternal Perspective—The saints would continue to serve the living and true God
· The word “wait” carries with it the understanding of expectancy.
Three things mentioned about the Son:
1. The first thing mentioned about Jesus is that He is currently in heaven seated at the right hand of God the Father—which is a reference to a position of honor and authority. Seated is a reference to Christ’s finished work
2. The second distinction mentioned about Jesus is that He has been raised from the dead.
· This is a clear contrast between Jesus and the idols and false gods the Thessalonians once worshipped. Their God lives and He is active in their lives.
3. The death and resurrection of Christ rescues us from the wrath of God.
· A person has a distorted or incomplete understanding of God if he or she does not think one of His attributes is wrath.
APPLICATION
How do you stack up? Will the wrath of God be poured out upon you, or has His wrath been turned away from you because you have placed your faith and trust in Jesus Christ and His saving work?
How do you stack up? Are you still serving your idols rather than serving the living God?
How do you stack up? When God converts a person, he changes the entire person; heart, thoughts, worldview, and will. He does a divine make-over. Old things pass away. All things become new.
Changed lives are a powerful witness to the Gospel. Can someone see a change in you?

Hearing Assistance Devices Now Available

We have hearing assistance devices available during the morning worship service which allow the user to control the volume based on their individual needs. They are available from the Sound Booth at the rear of the sanctuary and are cleaned and sanitized after each use. For questions, see Rocky Starland.

Have You Considered?

Did you know that if your bank offers online services, you can set your tithe up as a regular ‘bill payment’ through your bank? This is a convenient option to help with continuity in giving and the ability for you to tithe even when you are on vacation or miss church. It eliminates having to wonder if you turned in your offering while you were gone! If you have questions or would like more information about how to utilize this convenient option, check with your banking institution or contact the church office.

Pop Cans = Scholarships

Don’t forget that your beverage can & bottle donations are used to fund teen scholarships for youth retreats, summer camps, special activities, etc. Please bring your recyclable items to the church anytime!
