Conversation Starters

1. Read Romans 12:3-8

2. What about the “body” makes it an appropriate metaphor for the church? What’s the connection between Christ’s body and our bodies as living sacrifices (12:1-2)?

3. Spend some time considering a few gifts that God has given to you. What are they? How do you (or how can you start) using them to bless the body of Christ?

4. Name some ways you have been blessed by the gifts of others in this community group (or the church), specifically by gifts that you don’t possess.
Title: A Self-Giving Family

— What does it look like to live in the family of God as a transformed and renewed living sacrifice?
— Measure with Humility
You must therefore conceal from the patient the true end of Humility. Let him think of it not as self-forgetfulness but as a certain kind of opinion (namely, a low opinion) of his own talents and character. Some talents, I gather, he really has. Fix in his mind the idea that humility consists in trying to believe those talents to be less valuable than he believes them to be. ~ C.S. Lewis, Screwtape Letters
— Live in Unity
— Reap and Sow in Diversity

– God loves us enough to make us beautifully different with our bodies.
– God loves us enough to make us beautifully different with our minds.
When we read the Gospels about Jesus, then, what do we see? … Particularly impressive to readers over the centuries has been what one writer has called ‘an admirable conjunction of diverse excellencies in Jesus Christ.’ That is, in him we see qualities and virtues we would ordinarily consider incompatible in the same person. We would never think they could be combined but, because they are, they are strikingly beautiful. ~ Tim Keller,
