Sermon: Hannah: A Woman Committed to Honoring God in the Midst of Her Struggle
Passage: 1 Samuel 1-3

1. The context of Hannah’s life.

A. Hannah‘s circumstances.

B. The historical context of Israel.

2. What can we learn from Hannah’s example?

A. She dedicated her son as a prophet to the Lord. Numbers 6:1-5

B. She made a promise and fulfilled it, which accomplished God’s will and brought great joy to her.

C. She came to the Lord sincerely in prayer even with her anger.

3. Hannah was also a woman of genuine worship.

A. Hannah chose to worship, even though she was not required.

B. Hannah offered sacrificially to the Lord in her worship.

C. And in her obedience she fulfilled the will of God.

Application Thoughts:

1. Hannah teaches us to believe in the sovereignty of God and to pray sincerely to the Lord. Romans 8:28, Psalm 51:16-17

2. Hannah teaches us to be committed to genuine worship. Have we made it optional? Luke 17:11-19

3. We, like Hannah, should be people committed to fulfilling God’s will, being thankful first for our salvation. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Men's Gathering - September 19

Men, join us for an evening of fellowship at Barrels and Bottles at Camp George West on Thursday, September 19 at 6:00pm. These gatherings provide a great opportunity for men to connect, grow in friendship, and encourage each other in our walks with the Lord. Looking forward to catching up!

Stephen Ministry
Stephen Ministers offer high-quality, one-to-one, Christ-centered, emotional and spiritual care for people in the congregations going through difficult times. If you would like to like more information about getting connected with a Stephen Minister, or if you'd like to be a Stephen Minister, please email the Stephen Ministry team (stephenministry@hillsidecommunity.org).

Care Team Ministry
The goal of the Care Team is to physically support the congregation of Hillside Community Church. Care is provided on an intermittent, as-needed basis to fill in the gaps in care when family and friends are unable to meet the individual's needs. We have multiple volunteers who are able to provide transportation to and from appointments, necessary errands such as grocery shopping and deliveries, and hospital visits. Potential care recipients, and anyone desiring to be a transportation volunteer, can initiate contact by emailing care@hillsidecommunity.org.

Prayer Ministry
The Prayer Team hosts a monthly prayer night at 7:00pm on the third Monday of the month (next: September 16). Everyone is welcome! Please email the prayer team to submit prayer requests (prayer@hillsidecommunity.org). You can also receive prayer in person from 9:30-10:00am Sunday mornings in the cry room adjacent to the church foyer.

Meals Ministry
The Meals Ministry is a practical way to meet the needs of others in the congregation who are welcoming a new baby or experiencing challenging circumstances. If you would like more information about providing meals, or if you yourself are in need of meals, please contact Jenny Ward.

MOPS/MomCo
The Golden MOPS group will be taking a break from their regular meetings for the summer. They will resume meeting in the fall under a new name: MomCo (Mom Community). For more information, email goldenmomco@gmail.com.

Women's Ministry
The Women of Hope Saturday morning Bible study meets every other Saturday at the church at 9:00am. Please check the calendar on the website for meeting days. If you are interested in attending, please contact Andrea Flack or Jane Banzhaf.

Men's Ministry
The Thursday morning men's Bible study meets every other Thursday morning at the church at 6:00am. We're working through a book called "The Man Maker," which focuses on developing godly character and carrying that into the next generation as we father our children. The Saturday morning men's Bible study meets twice per month on Saturday mornings at the church at 9:00am. We're studying the book of James, which provides important insights on what it means to live a godly life. Please check the calendaron the website for meeting days. Young Adults
The Young Adults group will resume meeting on Sunday mornings at 8:45am on September 15. Contact Daniel Ayers for more information.

Youth Group
Sunday evenings: 4:00-5:30 at Hillside. Any changes will be communicated via text/email. Sunday during the service: Meet in the back of coffee shop on all but first Sunday of the month. Ensure you have a Breeze account with the church to get locations changes and updates. Contact Val Semich for questions.
