By My Spirit

By My Spirit

There is a certain way that God wants to move in and through your life. In the Old Testament, a prophet by the name of Zechariah receives a prophetic vision of the way God wants to move and in this vision the Lord says “not by might, nor by power but by my Spirit” (Zech 4:6). This vision was fulfilled in the New Testament with the coming of the promised Holy Spirit and since then God has been moving in our lives by His Holy Spirit. What does it look like to live a Spirit-filled life? How do we get filled and keep on being filled by the Spirit. Join us in this series ‘By My Spirit’ as we explore these things together.

Part 1: The Power of the Spirit

Zechariah 4:1-6 (NIV) Then the angel who talked with me returned and woke me up, like someone awakened fromsleep. He asked me, “What do you see?” I answered, “I see a solid gold lampstand with a bowl at the top and seven lamps on it, with seven channels to the lamps. Also there are two olive trees by it, one on the right of the bowl and theother on its left.” I asked the angel who talked with me, “What are these, my lord?” He answered, “Do you not know whatthese are?” “No, my lord,” I replied.
So he said to me, “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says theLORD Almighty.

Luke 24:49 (NLT) “And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised. But stay here in the city until theHoly Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven.”

1. Let the Holy Spirit Reveal

(John 16:8) – When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment:

(Isaiah 30:21) – Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”

2. Let the Holy Spirit Refine

(1 Thessalonians 5:19, 23) – 19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not treat prophecies with contempt 21 but test them all; hold on to what is good, 22 reject every kind of evil. 23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

3. Let the Holy Spirit Redeem

(Acts 9:15) – 15 But the Lord said to Ananias, “Go! This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel.

Being filled with the Holy Spirit doesn’t make me better
than you, it makes me better than me.

Spirit-Filled Life

(John 3:1-8 NIV) - Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. 2He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.” 3Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again. a ”4“How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!” 5Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.6Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit b gives birth to spirit. 7You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You c must be born again.’ 8The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”
