Exodus 1:16
When you help the Hebrew women give birth, observe them as they deliver. If the child is a son, kill him, but if it’s a daughter, she may live.
Exodus 2:3-10
So when Amram and Jochebed’s newborn turned out to be a son, they hid him for 3 months, But when she [Jochebed] could no longer hide him, she got a papyrus basket for him and coated it with asphalt and pitch. She placed the child in it and set it among the reeds by the bank of the Nile. Then his sister stood at a distance in order to see what would happen to him. Pharaoh’s daughter went down to bathe at the Nile while her servant girls walked along the river bank. She saw the basket among the reeds, sent her slave girl, took it, 6 opened it, and saw him, the child—and there he was, a little boy, crying. She felt sorry for him and said, “This is one of the Hebrew boys.” Then his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, “Should I go and call a Hebrew woman who is nursing to nurse the boy for you?” “Go,” Pharaoh’s daughter told her. So the girl went and called the boy’s mother. Then Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this child and nurse him for me, and I will pay your wages.” So the woman took the boy and nursed him. When the child grew older, she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. She named him Moses, “Because,” she said, “I drew him out of the water.”
Exodus 2:11-15
Years later, after Moses had grown up, he went out to his own people and observed their forced labor. He saw an Egyptian striking a Hebrew, one of his people. Looking all around and seeing no one, he struck the Egyptian dead and hid him in the sand. The next day he went out and saw two Hebrews fighting. He asked the one in the wrong, “Why are you attacking your neighbor?” “Who made you a commander and judge over us?” the man replied. “Are you planning to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?” Then Moses became afraid and thought, “What I did is certainly known.” When Pharaoh heard about this, he tried to kill Moses. But Moses fled from Pharaoh and went to live in the land of Midian, and sat down by a well.
Exodus 2:23
After a long time, the king of Egypt died.
Exodus 3:2
The angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire within a bush.

- Psalm 90
A prayer of Moses, the man of God.
Lord, you have been our refuge in every generation.
Before the mountains were born, before you gave birth to the earth and the world, from eternity to eternity, you are God.You return mankind to the dust, saying, “Return, descendants of Adam.”For in your sight a thousand years are like yesterday that passes by, like a few hours of the night. You end their lives; they sleep. They are like grass that grows in the morning—in the morning it sprouts and grows; by evening it withers and dries up.
For we are consumed by your anger; we are terrified by your wrath. You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence.
For all our days ebb away under your wrath; we end our years like a sigh. Our lives last seventy years or, if we are strong, eighty years.
Even the best of them are struggle and sorrow; indeed, they pass quickly and we fly away.
Who understands the power of your anger? Your wrath matches the fear that is due you.Teach us to number our days carefully so that we may develop wisdom in our hearts.
Lord—how long?Turn and have compassion on your servants.
Satisfy us in the morning with your faithful loves o that we may shout with joy and be glad all our days.
Make us rejoice for as many days as you have humbled us, for as many years as we have seen adversity.
Let your work be seen by your servants, and your splendor by their children.
Let the favor of the Lord our God be on us; establish for us the work of our hands—establish the work of our hands!
Verse 1 = “Lord” - Adonai=ruler.
Elohim is translated as “God.”
“LORD” “Yahweh,” = I am
I. God Is Great
1. He is our Refuge. (v. 1)
2. He is our Creator. (v. 2a) “Before the mountains were born, before you gave birth to the earth…” (v. 2)
3. He is Forever. (v. 2b) “From eternity to eternity, you are God.”
Exodus 19:16-19
On the third day, when morning came, there was thunder and lightning, a thick cloud on the mountain, and a very loud blast from a ram’s horn, so that all the people in the camp shuddered. Then Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. Mount Sinai was completely enveloped in smoke because the Lord came down on it in fire. Its smoke went up like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain shook violently. As the sound of the ram’s horn grew louder and louder, Moses spoke and God answered him in the thunder.
II. We Are Not Great
1. We are frail. (vs. 3-6)
2. We are fallen. (vs. 7-8)
3. We are finite. (vs. 9-10)
- Psalm 90:1-8
You return mankind to the dust, saying, “Return, descendants of Adam.”For in your sight a thousand yearsare like yesterday that passes by,like a few hours of the night. You end their lives; they sleep. They are like grass that grows in the morning—in the morning it sprouts and grows; by evening it withers and dries up.
For we are consumed by your anger; we are terrified by your wrath. You have set our iniquities before you ,our secret sins in the light of your presence.
God is great, and we are finite.
- Psalm 90:10
Our lives last seventy years or, if we are strong, eighty years.
…they pass quickly and we fly away.
Moses’ conclusion is:
4. We need perspective. (vs. 11-12)
- Psalm 90:12
Teach us to number our days carefully so that we may develop wisdom in our hearts.
“Help me see my life the way it really is and what it was meant for so that I can live the life you intend me to.”
In his final 5 verses, Moses prays 5 prayers, and they are all “go-big-or-go-home” prayers. They’re BIG prayers.
III. Ask for Big Things
1. For compassion on me. (v. 13)
2. For Your love and joy. (v. 14)
agape = hesed
“faithful love.”
“steadfast love.”
“unfailing love.”
“lovingkindness.”
3. To make up for the pain of my past. (v. 15)
4. To let us see how You’re at work. (v. 16)
5. To make something significant from my life. (v. 17)
What’s one BIG THING you want to ask of Him today?
