Southview Baptist Church
Walking Worthy Toward Unity
Deacon Chairman Chris De Jabet preaches from Paul’s letter to the Ephesians. This week, in Ephesians 4:1-16, we learn that the church is to use each person’s giftedness to build each other up to maturity, so that the church may live in loving, selfless unity. Video of the worship service is available beginning Sunday at 9:30 AM at https://southviewbaptist.org/live.

1. Unity requires that we live in a way that is worthy of our calling (1-6).
• A worthy walk is distinguished by selflessness (1-3).
• Seven doctrinal agreements are the basis of our unity (4-6).
• We are called not to a singular relationship, but to community.
Action: Selflessly participate in our church’s community in a way worthy of your calling.

2. Christ has given each of us a gift from God’s grace for service (7-10).
• Like tailored clothing, Christ has given each of us gifting that fits perfectly (7-8).
• Christ’s incarnation, death, and resurrection give Him authority over all things (9-10).
• Like a victorious warrior, Christ has distributed the spoils of victory to each of us as gifts.
Action: Ask yourself, “Do I know how my giftedness is tailored to me and how I can use it to grow fellow members?”

3. Christ has equipped the church for ministry, to reach unity, and grow into maturity (11-16).
• Gifted leaders have been given to the church to equip members for ministry (11-12a).
• The entire membership has responsibility to build each other up, maintain unity, and lead each other to maturity (12b-13).
• Speaking truth in love is the antidote to false teaching, and propels us to grow more into the image of Christ (14-16).
Action: Commit today to be responsible for the unity of our church, and to invest in each other’s walk to grow in maturity.
