Welcome to South! We're glad you joined us today! Below you will find some sermon notes and Bible passages, to help you follow along with Pastor Scott's thoughts around baptism. We are taking a break from our study on the biblical character of Moses, to celebrate these people following the Lord in baptism. We hope you will be encouraged by what is taught today.

Gospel Truth #1

Every member of the human race is a sinner.
Gospel Truth #2

The consequence of our sin is death – physical, spiritual, and eternal death. This has been God’s standard from the very beginning when he warned Adam and Eve not to eat the fruit of a certain tree, otherwise their disobedience would lead to death.
Gospel Truth #3

The helplessness of the human race to do anything about sin and its penalty. There is nothing that mankind can do to save themselves from the wages of their sin - death.
Gospel Truth #4

Because of His love for us, God has provided for us a rescuer in the Person of Jesus Christ.Since we can’t rescue ourselves from the penalty of sin, God stepped in and provided a rescuer for us -His son, Jesus Christ.
Gospel Truth #5

A person can only be rescued from their sin by repenting of their sins and trusting Jesus Christ to be their Savior and Lord.
Baptism

So what is baptism all about? It is an act in which someone who has already been saved participates in to testify to their belief in Christ’s death, burial and resurrection as the only way in which they can be given a new life in Christ, and to their desire to be a follower of Jesus Christ.

In addition to baptism, you and I can publicly identify ourselves as followers of Christ by…

Prioritizing the gathering together with other followers of Christ.
Keeping off all of the old sin clothes that you were wearing prior to Christ giving you his righteousness.
Husbands loving your wives as Christ loved the church.
Wives submitting to your husband's leadership as Christ submitted to the redemptive will of his father.
Students honoring those who are in authority over you - like teachers, coaches, and yes parents.
Baptism is a very obvious way to identify ourselves as a follower of Christ, but it is not, nor should be the only way.
