God’s Unfailing Word

God’s Unfailing Word

In the first half of Romans, Paul laid out the foundations of the gospel (ch. 1-4) and the fruit it bears in our lives (ch. 5-8). He ended in the highest heights, delighting in the gifts we have through faith in Christ. The Holy Spirit. Adoption into God's family. Future glory to which our present sufferings pale in comparison. And the assurance that NOTHING can separate us from God's love – it's a covenant he has made with us through the death and resurrection of his Son! But wait…didn't God make promises to Israel, who were also his covenant people? And not all Israel received Jesus, so did God's covenant fail? How are we to think about this – about Israel, about God's faithfulness? As Paul addresses these questions, he seems to hold God's election (choosing) in tension with human responsibility (to choose God)…how do we make sense of that? Above all, can we really trust that God is faithful, even when we're struggling to see it? (Spoiler: we absolutely can!)

Beyond Sunday

Growing with Jesus isn’t just for Sundays. Make it an everyday, everywhere, with everyone mission by going “beyond Sunday”!

Engage in these resources on your own and with your Grow Group*, family, or a friend:

Grow
• Watch this BibleProject overview video, to re-establish a framework of Romans in your mind: npberean.org/beyond10
• Consider further the phrase,”Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated,” with this short GotQuestions article: npberean.org/beyond11

Share
• Identify a verse from God’s unfailing word that has impacted you recently. How can you bless someone with that Truth this week?
• Paul was burdened for those around him. Ask the Lord to “burden” your heart in a similar way, then look for opportunity to share Christ today.

Connect
• How can what we learned through this sermon help us to have a right view of God? Discuss how this can influence your week.
• Listen to “Bless God” daily. Then pause and reflect on how your heart is being stirred: npberean.org/beyond12

* Connecting in community with other believers is crucial for spiritual growth. Explore group options at npberean.org/gg

Next Week's Sermon

We'll continue to unpack the question of "Who Chooses?" If God chooses, doesn't that make him unjust if he condemns us? How can God blame us for not choosing him if he is electing? Are we just puppets? How do we reconcile the thoughts and the feelings these questions conjure up? Is God right to do what he does? As we study, we'll delight in God's Blameless Character.
