Psalm 5:4-6

Psalm 5:4-6
Pastor Jerry Koller
Review of verses 1-3:
· We Have Instant Access to the Throne.
· Start the Day with God
· Wait With Expectation
· We Have Instant Access to the Throne.
· Start the Day with God
· Wait With Expectation
In these three verses, there are seven things mentioned about God that are worth noting:
1. God takes no pleasure in evil (vs. 4).
2. God has no fellowship with the wicked (vs. 4).
3. No one will be able to boast before Him (vs. 5).
4. God hates workers of iniquity (vs. 5).
5. God destroys liars (vs. 6).
6. God utterly detests murderers (vs. 6).
7. God detests deceivers (vs. 6).
The first thing David mentions about God is that He takes no pleasure in evil. You are not a God who takes pleasure in evil…
· Holiness primarily means separation—separation from evil. It is essential, absolute purity. ~ Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
· God takes no pleasure in evil because He is totally separated from evil.
· God is absolutely pure in His holiness.
· Holiness primarily means separation—separation from evil. It is essential, absolute purity. ~ Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
· God takes no pleasure in evil because He is totally separated from evil.
· God is absolutely pure in His holiness.
The second thing David mentions about God is that He has no fellowship with the wicked. With you the wicked cannot dwell.
· The only group that will be able to have fellowship with God—in the here and now as well as for time without end, are the righteous.
· The only group that will be able to have fellowship with God—in the here and now as well as for time without end, are the righteous.
The third thing David mentions about God, which is: No one will be able to boast before Him.
· The arrogant cannot stand in your presence.
· The boastful shall not stand before Your eyes. (Psalm 5:5a NASB)
· The arrogant cannot stand in your presence.
· The boastful shall not stand before Your eyes. (Psalm 5:5a NASB)
The fourth thing David mentions is that: God hates workers of iniquity. You hate all who do wrong.
· Iniquity can be defined as an absence of moral or spiritual values.
· Iniquity can be defined as an absence of moral or spiritual values.
Regarding the saying: We are to hate the sin but love the sinner.
· God hates sin: You hate all who do wrong (Psalm 5:5 NIV);
· You hate all who do iniquity. (Psalm 5:5 NASB)
· When Jesus returns, He will deal with sin in its entirety.
· Sin is not a living, breathing entity like humans, like angels, like living creatures. It is a condition.
· Sin, unlike the lost, will not stand before the judgement seat of God any more than sin itself can receive salvation.
· You cannot separate sin from the sinner.
· God hates sin: You hate all who do wrong (Psalm 5:5 NIV);
The fifth thing David says in regard to God reflects His hatred toward sin as well as the sinner. You destroy those who tell lies.
· His judgment may not be instantaneous, but it will come.
· His judgment may not be instantaneous, but it will come.
Abhor means to hate or detest.
The sixth thing David mentions is that God detests murderers.
· The NIV uses the word bloodthirsty, but bloodthirsty means murders for murders take life away from someone.
· The NIV uses the word bloodthirsty, but bloodthirsty means murders for murders take life away from someone.
The seventh thing David mentions also has to do with God detests deceivers.
· These individuals are closely knit to liars for they do not promote truth.
· These individuals are closely knit to liars for they do not promote truth.
What you see is not what you get. They are dishonest. They try to get others to embrace something that is not real; is not true.
In these three verses, David mentions evil, boasting, iniquity, lying, murder and deception. On the other side is God—a holy God.
David may not be able to do anything to stop evil, he knows God can. And he knows God does—which is why, in verse 2, he cried out to God for help.
APPLICATION
1. God is Not the Source of Evil
· He does not create evil or express evil in His creation as an attribute of His being. There is no evil in God.
· Cling to this truth as you face evil times and encounter evil people.

3. God Will Ultimately Do Away with All Evil
· ...when Jesus returns.
· He will also give us new bodies at that time that will be free from the stain and curse of evil, ones that will allow us to live with our Lord and Savior for time without end for this is His promise to us who are in Christ.

Ending Soon! School Supplies Collection: Now thru 8/11
We have been requested to do a school supplies collection for El Ayudante in Honduras for their upcoming school year [https://elayudanteinhonduras.com/]. Denise Hodge (daughter of Stan & Jean Robinson) who serves at this mission-based clinic asks that the backpacks be of good quality so they will last the entire school year. Other items needed are: spiral notebooks, dry erase markers, compasses, protractors, and packs of pens and pencils. We will be collecting items through Sunday, 8/11. IF YOU WOULD PREFER TO MAKE A CASH DONATION AND HAVE US SHOP FOR YOU, WE WILL HAVE A CONTAINER IN THE BACK OF THE SANCTUARY FOR YOU TO LEAVE A MONETARY GIFT. PLEASE MAKE THE NOTATION "HONDURAS" ON IT. Please consider making a donation if you are able. Thank you!

Session 2 will begin on Wednesday, September 18, from 7:00-8:00pm upstairs. If you have any questions, please contact Pastor Jerry.
Flower Bed Maintenance Needed
Spring is finally here and we need help maintaining the church’s flowerbeds. If you're willing to adopt-a-flower bed for the summer, please contact the church office or feel free to stop by the church at your convenience and pull weeds from whatever flowerbed catches your eye. If you contact us in advance, we can arrange for the shed to be open so you can get tools; otherwise feel free to bring your own.
Hearing Assistance Devices Now Available
We have hearing assistance devices available during the morning worship service which allow the user to control the volume based on their individual needs. They are available from the Sound Booth at the rear of the sanctuary and are cleaned and sanitized after each use. For questions, see Rocky Starland.
We Care News
· The Secretary of State mobile office is coming to South Haven on Friday, August 16th. Flier attached. They will be at Peace Lutheran Church, and anyone can schedule an appointment - they must call We Care (269-637-4342) to sign up. We have to have at least 10 people sign up, or they won't come.
· Meijer Simply Give - This is a campaign to stock our food pantries with Meijer gift cards so that they can purchase much needed food to stock their shelves. Last campaign, we received over $28,000 in gift cards. Please spread the word so that we can, once again, get that generous amount. The food pantries are spending approximately $6000 a month to maintain their stock to meet the needs of those in our community. People don't need to go to Meijer to pick up the gift cards. They can (and are encouraged to) mail a check or take cash to either First Congregational Church or the We Care office. Please specify Meijer Simply Give with any donations. Then, on August 17th and/or September 14th, we will take the cumulative donations to Meijer so they can run a batch of cards. On both those dates, the funds are matched 2-to-1, up to $5000 in donations. Any donations contributed over $5,000 will go directly to the food pantries.

Have You Considered?
Did you know that if your bank offers online services, you can set your tithe up as a regular ‘bill payment’ through your bank? This is a convenient option to help with continuity in giving and the ability for you to tithe even when you are on vacation or miss church. It eliminates having to wonder if you turned in your offering while you were gone! If you have questions or would like more information about how to utilize this convenient option, check with your banking institution or contact the church office.
Pop Cans = Scholarships
Don’t forget that your beverage can & bottle donations are used to fund teen scholarships for youth retreats, summer camps, special activities, etc. Please bring your recyclable items to the church anytime!
