As we wrap up our "Mission Critical" series this weekend, we are focusing on Jesus' parting words for all of His followers. At this point, Jesus has been crucified, His followers are scared and in hiding. However, the miracle of all miracles happens and Jesus comes back. His parting words to His followers leave a clear message. We call this "The Great Commission".
Read Matthew 28:18-20. What is the action step that Jesus is commanding of His followers? How does it apply to both 1st-century Christ followers and followers in 2024?
Pastor Andy said, "Church isn't an audience to be entertained, it is a mission to be lived out". What does this mean? How are you living this out?
The calling of the Great Commission is clear: GO! Go out and share the name of Jesus with all people. However, oftentimes, we have a tough time taking this step. Pastor Andy shared several reasons why we may struggle following through with this command. Look at the list below, do any of these challenges resonate with you?
- Fear: afraid to take the step
- "Calling": thinking it is not your calling of skill-set
- Busy: feeling that there is not enough time with all other responsibilities
- Unqualified: having questions or not feeling equipped to answer the questions of others
- Overwhelming: the mission seems too big or impossible
The truth is that God is always at work around you! He has determined your world, community, and the people in your circle. Sometimes, we simply need to step back and see it. What are some ways that you can share the Love of Jesus with those around you?
Remember, God is less concerned about our ability and more interested in our availability. Take some time and pray to our Heavenly Father. Ask Him to reveal areas where you can step in and be available to share His message with others.
