Psalm 1 - stay rooted in God
Stay Focused
We lost our focus.
Nothing good results from losing focus, or when we’re not paying attention to what’s important.
When we lose focus, things don’t feel right…We were “off.”
Daily lives…being “off” doesn’t honor God.
What does honor God? Focusing on Him.
Psalm 24:1-2 The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein, for he has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers.
The Lord is Creator and Owner of all…Creator and Sustainer of every living thing on earth.
Psalm 24:3-6
Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord?
And who shall stand in his holy place?
He who has clean hands and pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully. He will receive blessing from the Lord and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob.
The Lord receives those who live with a pure heart.
Many of the psalms talk about the nation of Israel pursuing a holy life.
Psalm 24:7-10:
Lift up your heads, O gates!
And be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.
Who is this King of glory?
The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle!
Lift up your heads, O gates!
And lift them up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.
Who is this King of glory?
The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory!
“Who is this King of Glory?”
The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory!
“Lift up your heads, O gates…”
1) may be referring to the temple gates.
2) a prophetic proclamation of Christ ascending into heaven (Acts 1:9).
3) refers to people inviting God into their hearts and their lives.
When we invite God in, He meets His people right where they are.
Stop looking in the mirror and look at God.
We can focus on God and His plan for our lives.
They just didn’t choose to do what God asked them to do.
God didn’t give up on the nation of Israel.
And He hasn’t given up on you.
Remind ourselves of who God is…His plan for you is more than what you see or feel.
It’s about knowing the WHO over the WHAT...Our focus should be on God and His plan.
For the Week ahead…
1) When have you lost your focus on something…and what happened?
2) How doe it feel to be unfocused or to focus on the wrong things? What are the consequences of being unfocused?
3) In This Psalm, David starts by (v.1-2) proclaiming God’s greatness and magnificence. How do you see God’s magnificence in your life and in things around you?
4) How can you continue to invite God to lead you every day?
