When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned. Romans 5:12

WHAT IS ORIGINAL SIN?
Sin is something that separates humanity from God. It is “missing the mark”.

Original Sin: Adam’s sin not only affected him but all humanity for all time.

Universal sin (disease) and personal sin (symptom) are not the same.

…we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. Ephesians 2:3



WHAT HAS ORIGINAL SIN DONE?
“As a result of the fall, the descent into sin has continued unabated ever since. A respect for authority was replaced by rebellion. A clear conscience was replaced by guilt and shame. Blessing was replaced by physical, spiritual, and eternal punishment. Viewing God as a friend to walk with was replaced by viewing Him as an enemy to hide from. Trust was replaced by fear. Love was replaced by indifference and even hatred. Intimacy with God was replaced by separation from God. Freedom to obey God was replaced by enslavement to sin. Honesty was replaced with lying and deceit. Self-sacrifice was replaced by self-centeredness. Peace was replaced by restlessness. Responsibility was replaced by blaming. Authenticity was replaced by hiding.” Driscoll


1/ Sin has dealt death to humanity’s spirit man.



2/ Sin has damned humanity’s soul to hell.



3/ Sin has destroyed humanity’s relationship with God.



4/ Sin has disrupted humanity’s relationship with others.


5/ Sin has deteriorated nature.



6/ Sin has distorted the image of God within humanity.


7/ Sin has defiled humanity’s individual righteousness.



Original Sin causes humanity to reject God.

Original Sin causes humanity to reform good into evil.

Original Sin causes humanity to refuse to do right.

Eve’s was a sin of commission. She did what God told her not to do.

Original Sin causes humanity to resolve to do wrong.

Adam’s was a sin of omission. He failed to do what God told him to do.


8/ Sin demands a price for humanity’s salvation.



WHAT CAN CURE ORIGINAL SIN?
When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned. For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ.
Romans 5:12, 17

CONCLUSION

1/ It matters because every eternal soul is at risk.
But if we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. 1 John 1:19



If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9



Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Romans 10:13
