•Application Step 1:
-determine the interpretation
--based upon the original audience

•Application Step 2:
-know your situation
--what are your strengths?
--what are your weaknesses?

•Application Step 3:
state the application in the form of a principle (or a Point!)
--it must be specific
--it must be directional
--it must be Biblical

•Application Step 4:
brainstorm for relation
--your relation to God
--your relation to yourself
--your relation to others
--your relation to sin

•Application Step 5:
take action!

II. 5 Ways to Avoid Application

1. apply it to others before applying it to yourself

2. substitute interpretation for application (knowledge instead of experience)

3. apply it to areas in your life in which you already practice the truth

4. when you find an area in need of change, rationalize your behavior, instead of dealing with your sin

5. substitute an emotional experience for a willful decision [doing is hard!]
