North Platte Berean Church

From Groaning to Glory

From Groaning to Glory

We've seen how Paul starts his letter to the Romans by laying Gospel Foundations: our need to be justified (declared "not guilty") by God and how He makes this possible through faith alone. So…now what? In chapters 5-8, Paul shifts his focus to what this gospel produces. He highlights the fruit (benefits) the gospel brings to those who believe it, and how this in turn produces even more fruit (Christ-honoring attitudes and actions) in their lives. Join in as we delight in our justification ("not guilty!"), peace, hope, reconciliation, freedom from sin, and Spirit-filling, among so many other amazing Gospel Fruits!

Beyond Sunday

Growing with Jesus isn’t just for Sundays. Make it an everyday, everywhere, with everyone mission by going “beyond Sunday”!

Engage in these resources on your own and with your Grow Group*, family, or a friend:

Grow
• Look up the word “glory” in a dictionary. Which definition best fits the way it’s used in this passage? Why? (For an outline of biblical usage, see npberean.org/beyond21.)
• What does it mean to be “called according to his purpose” (Rom. 8:28)? Check out this explanation from GotQuestions.org: npberean.org/beyond22.

Share
• Who do you know who is suffering right now? How can Romans 8:26-27 help you better pray for them this week? As you pray, ask the Spirit also to intercede on their behalf.
• Listen to the song Firm Foundation (npberean.org/beyond23). Share specific ways God has been your firm foundation with someone who needs encouraged this week.

Connect
• Discuss ways that we add to creation’s “groaning” (Rom. 8:20-22). What do we need to do differently?
• Do you believe God is able to turn every circumstance around for our long-range good (Rom. 8:28)? Discuss how this can be true even in desperate situations.

* Connecting in community with other believers is crucial for spiritual growth. Explore group options at npberean.org/gg

Next Week's Sermon

It has been said that the most important thing about us is what we believe about God. Paul drills down on this concept as he reaches the climax of chapter 8 by asking a series of questions to clarify and solidify our understanding and view of God. As we ask and answer these next week, we'll once again see the eternal weight of God's goodness, and the light momentary nature of anything in this world that might try to destroy His love for us.
