Preparation Question: How do we make sense of God’s gracious promise of forgiveness through Jesus alongside His solemn commands for us to avoid sin and “be holy”?
Four directives for faithful parenting:
1. Parents, teach your kids that sin is real and it’s really not good. (v. 1a)

2. Parents, teach your kids how to avoid sin and to joyfully trust and obey Jesus. (v. 1a)
3. Parents, teach your kids that, through faith, Jesus offers grace (and so do you) when they do sin. (v. 1b-2)
4. Parents, teach your kids that a Christian is someone who keeps seeking to follow Jesus faithfully. (v. 3-6)
Response Questions
1. As a parent, or anyone, why is it so easy to overcorrect when trying to faithfully walk with Jesus or teach others how to?
2. How do we balance between the extremes of legalism and, on the other hand, the grace-abusing doctrine of "easy-believism"? How do both views have a basis in Scripture even if both are unbiblical extremes?
3. Why is showing grace the best way to teach grace?
4. Will you spend time each day this week in the Bible to make sure your Christianity, both in belief and in practice, is in agreement with God's Word?
