This week, as we conclude our "As If" series, we are discussing what life would look like if we worked "As If" we were working for him.
Ice Breaker: What comes to mind when you hear the phrase "Working for the man"?
Many of us attempt to compartmentalize our faith and our work. But Pastor Jonathan reminded us that we are infact "working for the man". In all we do, we are working for Jesus. How does this change the way you view your job?
Work is not the "curse" of Adam and Eve disobeying God in Genesis 3. Work has been part of God's original design for Creation all along. God worked hard when He created the universe and then He rested. Since we are made in God's image, what application does this have for our lives?
Oftentimes, we think of work as something that we "have to" do so that we can rest. However, Pastor Jonathan shared a different perspective. Work is something that we "get to" do. And rest is not a reward for our work, but rather preparation for the opportunity of work. How does this challenge the way you view your work and the way that you view rest?
Much of the confusion stems from misunderstandings around the meaning of the Sabbath. New York City Pastor Jon Tyson put it this way: (Sabbath is) "Not an escape from the curse of the work, but a mechanism to enable you to do it for the glory of God." How would our culture benefit if, as Christ Followers, we lived this out?
Read Colossians 3:23. What is the connection between work and worship?
Moving forward, what are some ways that you can go into work and work "As If" you were working FOR Jesus? Go to our Heavenly Father in prayer. Ask Him to reveal ways that you can live FOR HIM in everything you do.
