Letters to the Church — Called to Serve in the Spirit
Pastor Nathan Wakefield continues our Letters to the Church sermon series. This week, in 1 Corinthians 12:1-11, we learn that Christ followers must make sure that Christ is preeminent in their service. 1. Christ followers are called to serve in a way that declares Jesus Christ, not something else (1‑3).
• Spiritual things are a reality and we need to understand them.
• Evil is a reality and we need to be on guard against it.
• Jesus is the litmus test.
Action: Determine to make sure that your service declares the Lord Jesus Christ.

2. The common thread that runs through all acts of Christian service is the Holy Spirit (4‑6).
• There are all sorts of different gifts that we are to use in the church, but the Holy Spirit unites those gifts.
• There are all sorts of different ways to serve in the church, but the Holy Spirit unites that service.
• There are all sorts of different jobs that need done in the church, but the Holy Spirit unites the work.
Action: Make sure your actions are guided by the Holy Spirit.

3. Spiritual gifting occurs by means of the Holy Spirit according to the will of Christ (7‑11, Ephesians 4:7‑13).
• Spiritual gifting is intended to benefit the church.
• Spiritual gifting is varied and diverse.
• Spiritual gifting is distributed according to the will of Christ.
Action: Submit your gifting to the direction of the Holy Spirit as Christ wills.
