A Guide for Personal or Group Spiritual Growth
Unless otherwise noted, words and phrases in this study guide are based on language from the New International Version (NIV). Use this guide by yourself or with friends as you seek to know God. To find a group, visit brookwoodchurch.org/groups.
https://www.brookwoodchurch.org/groupsRead Deuteronomy 6:1-12
https://www.bible.com/bible/111/DEU.6.1-12.niv1. This passage provides clear direction on how to live as the people of God. Read through this text and make a list of specific instructions Moses gave the Israelites (such as vs.2 fear the Lord and vs. 3 hear and be careful to obey).
2. How can you practice and model these? Write down at least five action steps you can take.
3. How well were these commands (i.e., values, instructions for living) passed down to you from your parents? What was the result?
4. What parts of this passage bring you hope and encouragement?
One of the central messages of this week’s passage is The way we live will inevitably shape the lives of future generations. Use the following questions to help you explore the challenges of today’s youth and ways you can make a difference in their lives.
5. How do you think middle schoolers are feeling these days?
6. What challenges are high schoolers experiencing?
7. God’s commandments are to be on our hearts (vs. 5). How can we help children and teens be drawn into the love of God rather than just telling them what to know and what to do?
8. How does this passage apply to those who don’t have children?
9. Spend time praying for the youth and young adults at Brookwood. If you’re already serving in an area that reaches the next generation, be encouraged! Your impact is more important than you might realize. If not, consider specific ways you can influence a younger person in their relationship with God.
10. Pause and ask God what He wants to say to you. Allow time for silence so He can put things in your heart and mind.
