How often do you read the Old Testament looking for Jesus?
The primary purpose of the Old Testament is to point us to Jesus.
1. Jacob wrestles with Jesus.
Jon Bloom – “Sometimes when we want God’s comfort, he sends it in unexpected and even unwanted packages.”
2. Jacob humbles himself.
Jesus willingly lost the battle to Jacob in order to bestow a blessing upon him. Jesus also willingly “lost” at the cross so that He may bestow every spiritual blessing upon us!
A.P. Ross - “To be successful with God meant that he had to be crippled in his own self-sufficiency.”
3. Jacob’s name is changed to Israel.
To wrestle with God and prevail is to know that God has wrestled you and by His grace, changed your name.
