Maybe our heart’s desire is not to “do” more, but to be more
Something very special comes from our lives when we are rooted in Jesus as the source of life.
Life that is connected to the source.
“Happiness” is the God-given security that comes only when you are planted in God.
“Wicked” simply means living life without any regard to God.
How do we become blessed?
Meditation on God’s words/commands is an awareness and commitment to live by God’s moral will.
The psalmist says to be like a tree.
God is showing us how important it is for us to stay constantly connected to our source of life—which is HIM.
Christianity isn’t a list of do’s and don’ts it’s being planted and simply remaining with Jesus.
“He does not ask much of us, merely a thought of Him from time to time, a little act of adoration, sometimes to ask for His grace, sometimes to offer Him your sufferings, at other times to thank Him for the graces, past and present, He has bestowed on you, in the midst of your troubles to take solace in Him as often as you can. Lift up your heart to Him during your meals and in company; the least little remembrance will always be the most pleasing to Him. One need not cry out very loudly; He is nearer to us than we think.”

~ Brother Lawrence 15th century French monastery dishwasher
Trees don’t really do anything but stay connected to their life source.
Sometimes, staying planted means we prune things away to bear more fruit:
More often than adding to your life, God often is calling you to prune away the parts of your life that are not bearing fruit.
The only way you grow and bear fruit is by staying rooted
There is a season for fruit, there is a season for growth, and sometimes there is a season of rest and preparation. Bearing spiritual fruit isn’t a command from Jesus, it’s a byproduct of being rooted.
Just because it doesn’t look like anything is happening on the surface— doesn’t mean there is not growth.
We place way too much emphasis on the parts of life that we can see and compare to others, and not nearly enough time in the quiet and solitude where true growth occurs.
Just like a tree, our growth is in cooperation with where God has planted us. We stay rooted in Him and only thrive based on what God has already done and what He is doing.
Ultimately, trees require storms to push their roots down deep enough to produce the fruit God intended for them.
What’s beautiful about this passage is that if you are in the heat of the fire right now, or if you are in the drought, have CONFIDENCE that God is working through your circumstances and He is molding your disappointments to keep you rooted in Him.
God is moving in your disappointments and circumstances to make something beautiful from it.
Ultimately, he wants you to grow your roots down deeper in Him - abiding in Him as He intended you to be.
