Freed for Life

Freed for Life

We've just seen how Paul starts his letter to the Romans by laying Gospel Foundations: our need to be justified (declared "not guilty") by God and how He makes this possible through faith alone. So…now what? In chapters 5-8, Paul shifts his focus to what this gospel produces. He highlights the fruit (benefits) the gospel brings to those who believe it, and how this in turn produces even more fruit (Christ-honoring attitudes and actions) in their lives. Join in as we delight in our justification ("not guilty!"), peace, hope, reconciliation, freedom from sin, and Spirit-filling, among so many other amazing Gospel Fruits!

This Week's Sermon: Freed for Life
________ in _____________ of life

(Walk, newness)
_____________ yourself __________ and _________

(Consider, dead, alive)
_______ let sin _____________

(Don't, master)
Grace is not license to sin, but a power and freedom not to.
Baptism – Sunday 5/12, 9:15 gathering:
Baptism is a public witness of an internal reality, that the person has passed from death to life by trusting Jesus for salvation. Today we'll be baptizing Zara Prieto.
Beyond Sunday

Growing with Jesus isn’t just for Sundays. Make it an everyday, everywhere, with everyone mission by going “beyond Sunday”!

Engage in these resources on your own and with your Grow Group*, family, or a friend:

Grow
• Have you been united with Christ through faith? Have you identified with him through believer’s baptism? If not, these are great first steps into a growing relationship with him! (To find out more, simply use the ConnectCard to let us know you’d like to talk to someone about this.)
• Consider the meaning of baptism in the Bible by reading this article: npberean.org/beyond4
• Watch the video “Free from Sin” for another perspective on Romans 6: npberean.org/beyond5

Share
• Romans 6:5-7 explains how we are set free from sin. What’s one specific way you can live out this freedom in the way you treat others this week?
• Listen to Death Was Arrested several times (npberean.org/beyond6). Then tell someone about what new life in Christ means to you personally.

Connect
• Discuss this claim: “Grace doesn’t provide a license to sin but a power and freedom not to.” What does that practically look like in our lives?
• Consider Romans 6:12-13. Is something mastering you? Confess this to a close friend.

* Connecting in community with other believers is crucial for spiritual growth. Explore group options at npberean.org/gg

Next Week's Sermon

When we see something we want, our impulse can be just to reach out and take it. And if there was no law against doing so, what's to stop us? Next week we'll explore how the Apostle Paul answers this question and gives us a better one: "Where does this choice lead?"
