Essence: A Study on the Nature of God - God is Holy (week 1)
Holiness is a term often used to describe God and His ultimate desire for His Church, and yet it is a concept that seems foreign to many in the church today. What does it mean that God is holy? What does it mean that God desires that His children be holy? As we define God’s holiness and explore its implication for every Christian, we ultimately see that a true recognition of the beauty of God’s holiness sustains us in every season of life.

Holiness:
a separation from what is unclean, and consecration to what is pure
a separation from what is unclean, and consecration to what is pure
Consecration:
the devoting or setting apart of anything to the worship or service of God
the devoting or setting apart of anything to the worship or service of God
A working definition of holiness -
Holiness:
a separation from what is unclean to keep oneself pure in order to be devoted to the worship or service of God
Holiness:
a separation from what is unclean to keep oneself pure in order to be devoted to the worship or service of God
Several observations of note:
1. A recognition that God is unlike anything ever seen before.
2. This recognition leads to a utter sense of humility and fear, rooted in a recognition of unworthiness.
3. A willful laying down of all earthly successes and titles before the only One who is truly worthy of all glory and honor.

The recognition of God’s holiness creates a huge problem for us.
The Good News:
God is calling us to holiness because He’s calling us to Himself.
God is calling us to holiness because He’s calling us to Himself.
The Bad News:
No matter how hard we try, we know that we can never measure up
to God’s standard of holiness.
No matter how hard we try, we know that we can never measure up
to God’s standard of holiness.
God provides the path for restoration.
Teleios:
to know and understand one’s purpose, and to structure your life in such a way as to prioritize fulfilling that purpose
to know and understand one’s purpose, and to structure your life in such a way as to prioritize fulfilling that purpose
The purpose of your life is not to be perfectly God.
You are called to be perfectly human.
You are called to be perfectly human.
The call is not to watch Jesus do things.
The call is to do what Jesus did.
The call is to do what Jesus did.
The true recognition of the beauty of God’s holiness
sustains us in every season of life.
sustains us in every season of life.
The true recognition of the beauty of God’s holiness
sustains us in every season of life
because it gives us purpose.
sustains us in every season of life

Holiness:
a separation from what is unclean to keep oneself pure in order to be devoted to the worship or service of God
a separation from what is unclean to keep oneself pure in order to be devoted to the worship or service of God
We are sent to help others witness the same.
