SCRIPTURE
And I am praying that you will put into action the generosity that comes you’re your faith as you understand and experience all the good things we have in Christ. Philemon 1:6

INTRO
Christian faith isn’t just understanding truth but also experiencing truth.

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. James 1:22

You see that (Abraham’s) faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. James 2:22

…faith without deeds is dead. James 2:26

In the church, we’re called to believe right things (orthodoxy) and do right things (orthopraxy).

The institution provides the individual an opportunity to practice their faith.

THE ORTHOPRAXY OF THE FIRST BELIEVERS
All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer. A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity – all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved. Acts 2:42-47

1/ The first believers made a practice of glorifying God.
Others were touching Jesus, but the woman touched Jesus!

“We are the ones who determine our level of intimacy with the Lord.” John Bevere
2/ The first believers made a practice of gathering together.

In the Temple, they would sing and share their faith. In their homes, they would eat and share their lives.

“Without food, there is no Torah study and without Torah study there is no food.” Mish

3/ The first believers made a practice of growing in knowledge.
…grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 3:18

“Malnourished people will eat anything.” Mark Rutland

Illiterate vs Aliterate

4/ The first believers made a practice of giving generously.
We believe all Christians should give of their treasure, time, and talents.

A tithe is 10% of one’s income. Anything beyond a tithe is an offering.

As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace. 1 Peter 4:10

“Sometimes, we can’t truly understand the Bible until we obey it.” Eugene Peterson

5/ The first believers made a practice of going to others.

Reaching the lost was simply an overflow of everything else happening. Acts 3-5

And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man. Luke 2:52
