We are wrapping up our series, “Quick and Easy Steps to Following Jesus”. In this series, we have discussed key elements of following Jesus and why though simple, it is not always easy. This week we are focusing our attention on; feeling CLOSER to God.
Ice Breaker: What does feeling closer to God look like for you? Think of a time in your life when you remember asking yourself, "How can I Feel Closer to God?"

Often, there is a tension that many Christ-Followers feel when it comes to trusting Jesus. Pastor Eric said; "there are 2 components of this trust": Positionally (belonging) & Experientially (living it out). Many Followers of Jesus stop at belonging and never make it to living it out. Why do you think this is and why are our actions and choices so important? Use the following 2 scriptures to help with this reflection.

2 Corinthians 5:17

John 15:4

“Growing closer to Jesus results in a greater concern for others.” Why do you think that might be? What examples of this have you seen in your own life?
Pastor Eric shared 4 observations of what it means to grow closer with God. Which ones do you struggle with and which ones do you find come more naturally?
1) Closer begins with curiosity
2) Closer happens with proximity
3) Closer can come with criticism
4) Closer results in loving people
Take some time and pray to our Heavenly Father. Ask Him to open your eyes to areas of your own life where you can feel closer to Him and share His love with others. Use these 3 questions that Pastor Eric shared with us to help guide your prayer time:
- Are there limitations I'm accepting as excuses?
- Am I open to God challenging my assumptions?
- Do I understand true spirituality?
