Community Group Conversation Starters
Conversation Starters help us dig deeper, connecting Sunday’s sermons with our Monday lives. Please know that these questions are meant to be a resource. You do not have to follow them verbatim or get through them all. We trust you to know your group and to ask the questions based on your group needs.

1. Read Romans 8:5-11.

2. What stood out to you from the passage?

3. What stood out to you from the sermon?

4. What sorts of things do those living in the flesh have their minds set upon? What about those living in the Spirit? What are some ways you’ve experienced a mindset of the flesh leading to death and/or a mindset of the Spirit leading to peace and life? What can you do to continuously pursue a mindset of the Spirit in your everyday life?

5. How will you apply this to your life? What are you going to do, be or think differently because of this truth?

Take time to share prayer requests and pray together.

Title: Alive Inside
Reference: Romans 8:5-11
Speaker: Taylor Fair, TaylorF@cckc.church
“Our base, primal, animalistic drives for self-gratification, especially as pertains to sensuality and survival…The sinful appetite in all of us that feels natural to our bodies and yet is wrong.” - John Mark Comer, Live No Lies
> You are part of a new realm and a new power is at work in your bodies.
> Your life can and should change.
> Kill the works of the flesh with the help of the Spirit.
> Learn to recognize the things of the flesh.
“Fasting is a way to turn your body into an ally in your fight with the flesh rather than an adversary…fasting trains our bodies to not get what they want and our souls to be happy and at peace even when we don’t get our way.” - Comer, Live No Lies
> Learn to focus on the things of the Spirit.
“For Paul, the opposite of ‘indulge the flesh’ was ‘love your neighbor.’ - Comer
> Create space for the Spirit to reach the roots.
"Every time we give into our flesh's desire to sin, we plant something in the soil of our hearts, which then begins to take root, grow, and, eventually, yield the harvest of a deformed nature. Thankfully, the same is true of the Spirit. Every time you sow to the Spirit and invest the resources of your mind and body into nurturing your inner man or woman's connection to the Spirit of God, you plant something deep in the humus of your central fulcrum, which, over time, takes root and bears the fruit of a Christlike character." - Comer, Live No Lies
