1 Corinthians 4:6-21: Rooting out pride
“As long as you are proud you cannot know God. A proud man is always looking down on thing and people: and, of course, as long as you are looking down you cannot see something that is above you.” ― C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity.
I) Paul cares for the Corinthians.

B) He wants them to learn from his and Timothy’s _____________.
II) The Prideful Attitude of Corinthians.
A) ____________ up: They thought they knew everything.
B) _____________ up: They thought they had everything they needed.
C) They felt _______________ to all others.
What areas to you sometimes feel superior to others?
The pride of the Pharisee in Jesus’ parable was what we can call moral self-righteousness. It expresses itself in a feeling of moral superiority with respect to other people. This type of pride is not limited to believers. It is found in the political and cultural realms among both liberals and conservatives. Anyone who believes, for example, that he holds the moral high ground in any area such as politics, economics, or environmental policy is likely indulging in moral self-righteousness. Jerry Bridges Respectable Sins: Confronting the Sins We Tolerate.
III) The antidote to pride.
A) People in our life that care enough to ____________ it out to us.
1) They are ______________.
2) They interact in a ________________ way.
B) They remind us of three important truths.
1) We are all ______________ in need of God’s grace.
2) Everything we have is a _________ from God.
3) Our primary identity is being part of Christ’s ______________.
