Taking Care of your Garden - Cedric Holl
As Christians, we are called to be the light of the world and an example to others. But this is not always easy to do - especially when we inevitably face trials and hardships in our lives. However, it is through these trials that we develop perseverance and grow in our faith, allowing us to become more like Jesus and to build a closer relationship with our Father.

1. The calling for believers
Matthew 5:13-14 (NIV)
You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.
The call is not about us only fixing up our lives and being born again into righteousness; it's about sharing it with others and being an example.

2. Finding our direction through the scriptures
Romans 15:4 (NIV)
For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.
If we go through the scriptures, we can see that God calls his people through trials, walks with his people through trials, and leads his people through trials.

3. Growing in his likeness takes going through hardship
James 1:2-4 (NIV)
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
Faith is a walk of trials, but the fruit is sanctification - growing in the likeness of Jesus and developing a closer relationship with our Father.
