Can God Be Trusted?

Can God Be Trusted?

Did you realize that Paul's letter to the Romans is his only NT letter to a church he hadn't planted or at least visited? Paul was eager to keep taking the good news of Jesus where it had never been heard, and Rome could be a great place for launching a gospel ministry into Spain. But in many ways, Paul was an unknown to the church there. So, rather than spend a lot of time addressing their dysfunctions (like he does, say, with the Corinthians), Paul offers an overview of his teaching, beginning with foundational understandings about the gospel and its implications for unity between Jews and Gentiles. (This was one of the great social divides of the time and presented a key challenge for the Roman church.) Join in as we explore how these same gospel foundations have the power to bring hope and unity in our lives still today!

This Week's Sermon: What's Inside?
"The Righteousness of God" (Rom 1:17)

1. A divine attribute (God's RIGHTEOUS character - he always does right)

2. A divine activity (God is making people righteous like himself)

3. A divine achievement (God has already legally declared us "Not guilty!")
God is __________________ to his ___________________

(faithful, covenants)
God is __________________ in his ___________________

(righteous, judgments)
Baptism – Sun. 3/3, 9:15 a.m. gathering
Baptism is a public witness of an internal reality, that the person has passed from death to life by trusting Jesus alone for salvation. This week we will baptize Parker Ginn.

Next Week's Sermon

Do you want the good news or the bad news? Paul is preparing his readers for some incredible good news (the gospel), but before they can understand the immense joy it brings they must understand the depth of the bad news all of them were facing before Christ. It's the same for us. We'll explore the bad news first as we prepare ourselves for the life-altering, joy-filling good news of salvation by grace through faith!
