The Attributes of God
Goodness
Pastor Jerry Koller
Goodness Definitions:
· The quality of being morally good or virtuous.
· That which is pleasing or valuable or useful.
· Moral excellence or admirableness
Our understanding of good or goodness is limited as far as it pertains to God.
What can we know about God’s goodness?
· It is in perfect balance with all His other attributes.
· It overlaps almost all His incommunicable attributes.
· He is the final standard of goodness.

Luke 18:19

Goodness has to do with doing what is right and avoiding what is wrong.
Good is what God approves.
Implications:
· All God says reflects His goodness.

Hebrews 6:5

All God’s plans reflect His goodness.

Ephesians 1:9

All God does reflects His goodness.

Genesis 1:31

Psalms 119:68

2 Chronicles 6:41

Psalms 23:6

It is so important that we keep in mind the fact that all the attributes of God are but glimpses into God’s very being.
· They give us insight into who and what God is.
· They help us understand Him even if it is in a finite way.
God has always intended for us to know Him.

Isaiah 55:8-9

Hebrews 6:19

Galatians 5:22

2 Peter 1:3

Ephesians 5:7-10

APPLICATION
Find out what pleases the Lord.
· He has not made these things unknowable.
· They are not a secret He keeps to Himself.
· They are not things that are beyond our comprehension.
Where do we look? Look to where He has revealed Himself.
· He has revealed things about Himself in what He has created.
· He has revealed Himself in Jesus Christ, God incarnate.
· He has revealed Himself in the Holy Scriptures.

Romans 12:1-2

Love Offering

We have received a request to help a church family member with a special situation as they pursue hiring a lawyer regarding custody issues for their child. There is reason to believe that the non-custodial parent, who is grossly behind on child support, is placing the child in danger due to substance abuse. The lawyer fee is $3500. If 35 people are able to donate $100, this need would be met. If you feel compelled to help, please make your payment to FBC with the note of "Love Offering: Lawyer" in the memo. Thank you!

Hearing Assistance Devices Now Available

We have purchased a few devices to help individuals with a hearing deficit to listen to the morning worship service better. The devices allow the user to control the volume based on their individual needs. They are available from the Sound Booth at the rear of the sanctuary and are cleaned and sanitized after each use. For questions, see Rocky Starland.

Inclement Weather

If we need to cancel church activities, we will communicate closures via email, text, phone, and on our Facebook page. Information may also be communicated on tv through WWMT (channel 3), WoodTV (channel 8), and Fox 17 (channel 17), but the other methods will be our first priority. If you are not receiving communication in one of these ways, please contact the church office.

Have You Considered?

Did you know that if your bank offers online services, you can set your tithe up as a regular ‘bill payment’ through your bank? It eliminates having to wonder if you turned in your offering while you were gone! If you have questions or would like more information about how to utilize this convenient option, check with your banking institution or contact the church office.

Pop Cans = Scholarships

· Vincent Bryant (son of Miriam Bryant) is dealing with several health issues. He has been dealing with blood clots which have been interfering with his dialysis treatments. He continues to recover from a second surgery on his left hand after an infection which resulted in one finger being amputated. He is also having issues with an ankle that prevents him from driving. As a result, Miriam is transporting him to dialysis three days a week.
· Miriam Bryant has begun therapy for hip issues.
· Pete Danapilis is recovering from cataract surgery.
· Nolan Marshall · was approved to receive services for another year. Praise God for answered prayers!
· Anna Bocock’s Lyme tests came back that she has Epstein Barr in addition to one strain of Lyme. They are not able to treat the Lyme until the Epstein Barr is under control. She is currently very sick and is not responding to the treatments for the Epstein Barr. Pray that the treatments start working and she is able to get that under control so that she can move forward with the Lyme treatment within the next few months.
· Caroline Bocock is doing much better! She passed her concussion test after a year of failing and has been approved to do anything she wishes. She will have more Lyme testing later this month, but the symptoms have almost completely disappeared since her treatment in July. Pray for continued improvements and for clear test results so she doesn’t have to do anymore treatments.
· Joyce Bocock continues to do well. Prayers for continued improvement and relief from pain are appreciated.
· Check out our monthly prayer card on-line at southhavenfbc.com under “Weekly Bulletins” for a list of those with on-going needs.
