What are the claims of Scripture?
1) The Bible claims to be the very words of God
2) The Bible claims to be the standard for Truth
3) The Bible claims to be “living and active.” It says it is still authoritative and interactive in a way that no other book could be.
How Can I Trust Scripture?
1) Historical Accuracy
2) The martyrdom of the early believers for it
3) Scriptures internal consistency, beauty, and connectedness
4) German Higher Criticism
5) Jesus trusted it
6) It’s inherent Power (the Holy Spirit)

EFCA statement of Faith

“We believe that God has spoken in the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, through the words of human authors. As the verbally inspired Word of God, the Bible is without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His will for salvation, and the ultimate authority by which every realm of human knowledge and endeavor should be judged. Therefore, it is to be believed in all that it teaches, obeyed in all that it requires, and trusted in all that it promises.”
Why should I obey Scripture?

1) Scripture is Truth
2) Scripture is Life
3) Scripture leads to Jesus
4) Scripture changes us
4 Practical Steps:
1. Read with Curiosity not Suspicion
2. Read it regularly not sporadically
3. Read in embodied community and not virtual isolation
4. Read it to encounter Jesus
